Jermaine Shakespeare

Jermaine Shakespeare brings nearly 20 years of experience in public education. He began his career as a middle school science teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools in metro Atlanta, where he was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2021. Since returning to Alabama, he has served as assistant principal and principal of D.A. Smith Middle School and most recently as principal of Elba High School, where he helped lead school improvement efforts that increased academic achievement while strengthening school culture and climate.

Mr. Shakespeare earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Alabama A&M University, a Master of Arts in History from Piedmont University, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Grand Canyon University.

He is passionate about developing teachers, empowering students, and building strong partnerships with families and the community. Outside of school, Mr. Shakespeare enjoys distance running and remains actively engaged in initiatives that support educator development, student success, and stronger connections between schools and the communities they serve, including presenting at state and national education conferences on instructional leadership, school improvement, and educator development.
